Déjà Vu Judy’s Audition
Judy tentatively reached for her necklace, and groaned as the pain in her head reacted to the movement. Despite the pain she smiled as she recalled last night, and what a night it had been. Her eye caught the two empty glasses and the fact that only one had lipstick around the rim, and wondered what her parents would make of it.
She sat down to straighten her stockings, and once more the banging in her head grew worse. She waited for a moment or two for it to settle before standing up again.
She vowed never to drink again if this is how it feels the day after, but then she thought about how good it had made her feel last night. She tried to shake the thoughts from her head so that she could concentrate on getting dressed and out of here.
She struggled to put her dress on, and struggled even more to fasten it. She vowed to weigh herself when she got back from the audition. Her mother would be on at her the minute she returned home if she noticed any weight gain.
She eased her feet into her shoes as she heard the taxi arrive and beep the horn. Her movements were slow & measured because each step was made difficult by the explosions in her head.
Hat “check”, coat “check”, bag “check” finally ready to go. Judy idly wondered how on earth she was going to get through an audition..
What we didn’t see is that after getting into the taxi and driving to the end of the road, Judy realized that she hadn’t put her earrings in. The taxi driver turned around at the next available opportunity and Judy rushed indoors to get them.
Seconds later there was a huge bang, much louder than the banging in her head and she rushed to the window to see what had caused it. She saw the taxi driver standing next to his cab and then breaking into a sprint. She followed the direction and saw a wall of flames shoot up from a petrol tanker.
It had overturned at the junction where she would have been at precisely that moment, had she not returned home. Her legs turned to jelly then and she recalled how her mother always told guests how Judith (yuk) had escaped death so many times in her life that she must be here for a special purpose.
Suffice to say that she (Judy) didn’t make the audition but the agency felt to sorry for her that they rearranged it, and she impressed them so much that they offered her a part (it helped that she didn’t drink the night before that one).
Judys dress was really tight and the middle fasteners would not fasten.
The belt would not fit around Judys waist and there was no chance of being able to fasten it.
I used the belt as a hat and just secured it around her pony tail.
Her hat was used as a belt, however the elastic snapped, so the hat became the bag tucked under her arm.
